Dr. Kobrin grew up in Gary, Indiana.  He majored in Zoology at Indiana University. He did three months of foreign study in the Ophthalmology Department at Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem, Israel while in medical school at Chicago Medical School.  His ophthalmology residency was at Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland, Oregon.   He completed a fellowship in ophthalmic pathology at the University of Iowa.  He has been an ophthalmologist with HealthPartners Medical Group since 1978 and Chair of HealthPartners Ophthalmology taff since 1997.  He has been on the Ophthalmology Clinic staff at Regions Hospital since 2001.  He currently serves as Director of the Residency Program there.
