This program, a one-year fellowship, is administered under the sponsorship of the University of Minnesota and the AUPO. Our program matriculates one fellow each year. Applicants applying for Neuro-Ophthalmology Fellowship must contact the department's education office directly to obtain application materials and procedures at 612-625-4618.
Neuro-ophthalmology is the subspecialty of ophthalmology and neurology that studies and treats disorders of the part(s) of the eye, orbit and nervous system. The scope of the clinical practice of neuro-ophthalmology varies widely, in part because it blends the skills and services of its two parent disciplines; neurology and ophthalmology
The fellow is introduced to clinical and laboratory research and is encouraged to actively participate. A research project is required of the fellow each year. In addition, the fellow takes responsibility for some of the resident and medical school teaching.
Fellows must be board eligible, must have satisfactorily completed an accredited internship and ophthalmology residency program in the United States, and must be able to obtain an unrestricted medical license in the state of Minnesota.
