Education Schedule

First Year

Microsurgery LabThe first year schedule is comprised of five rotations approximately 10-11 weeks in length along with continuity clinic. Each resident will rotate through a variety of different training environments including: the Hennepin County Medical Center, University of Minnesota Ophthalmology Clinic, and the Minneapolis VA Health Care System. This allows our residents the unique opportunity to perfect their comprehensive clinical knowledge and exam skills while dealing with a diverse set of populations. During each of these rotations our residents benefit from early surgical exposure and time in the OR and exposure to the subspecialties.  Additionally, the Oculoplastics and Pathology rotation is completed during the first year to identify any interest in this subspecialty early on, and provide a head start to any resident who desires to apply to the early matched fellowship of Oculoplastics.

Second Year

Microsurgery LabIn our second year, our residents rotate through five subspecialty rotations including Glaucoma, Retina, Pediatric Ophthalmology, Anterior Segment/Cornea, and Neuro-ophthalmology at the University of Minnesota and continue continuity clinic. Residents dive deep into each subspecialty building on the foundation of the first year.  During each rotation, residents continue to perfect their surgical skills with a generous amount of their time spent in OR, which allows each resident to develop their surgical skills over the entire three year residency program. Moreover, residents have the opportunity to practice for upcoming cases, and sharpen their skills with the use of our state of the art Eyesi surgical simulator available to them 24/7.

Third Year

Class of 2018 OR PageDuring their third year, our residents expand their time in the OR, operating with a diverse group of faculty.
